Over recent years there has been increasing demand for locally sourced products, however the needs for buyers to ensure that their ‘due diligence’ defence is not compromised when buying from local sources who may not participate in formal certification schemes remains, and with many organisations disbanding their supplier approval auditing networks several years ago this presents a potential barrier for new organisations wishing to gain entry into the market. SOFHT has recognised this disconnect and through our scheme we have taken a proactive and practical approach to resolving this issue.
Fundamentally all “Schemes” must be simple and cost effective to ensure buy-in from suppliers yet robust enough to ensure products are legal and safe, and we believe passionately that when it comes for certification then “one size certainly does not fit all”.
